{This games was early in the morning for me. I got up 1/2 hour before I had to
play to get ready and to be awake.} 1. e4 {
Starting out the way I would normaly.} c5 {Sicilian.} 2. Nf3 d6 3. g3 Nc6 4.

Bg5 {Pining the Knight and making my out post more safe.} h6 {
What I thought he would do so I take his Bishop.} 10. Bxf6 Bxf6 11. Nd5 {
He took back and now my knight sits high and mighty.} Bg7 12. Nd2 {
Bringing over my other night to go after the backwards pawn.} Be6 {I did think
about c4 but that would have given him an out post for his knight on d4 I felt
this would have been a pain. Now I see Nf3 would have stoped or traded Knights.
This would not have been so bad for me. We would have had oppasit Bishops both
bad. It could have worked. I just put my rook on the soon to be half open e
file.} 13. Re1 Bxd5 14. exd5 Ne7 {So not looking to bad here. MY pawn d pawn
is safe and his d pawn is a target. His queen will be tyed down to its defence.
I think I sould have played to open things up some more. With f4.} 15. Nc4 b5 {
So I have a dubble pawn on the d file. The pawn on d5 blocks my Bishop. and I
have forced him to gain large amounts of space. I can not take his backward

1. e4 {Starting out with e4 for as normal} e5 2. Nf3 Nf6 {Ok I have not seen
this before. Not sure what to make of it. I need to protect my e pawn. I
could
trade e pawns but I am not sure that is the best plan for me. I like things
closed. I do not want to start opening things on move 3.} 3. d3 {I did think
about going Nc3 here. I have planed to fenchetto my bishop anyway so it
matters little that I am blocking it now. This is the start of a nice pawn
chain as well. I do plan to move my knight to c3 at some point but I am not
ready to do so right now. I might need it some where else. I can always move
my d pawn up later.} d6 {A bit odd but nothing wrong at this point. Right
niw
we are both looking to attact on the King side. I should have thought about
0-0-0 but it never really intered my mind.} 4. g3 {Making room for my
Bishop.}
Bf5 {This one really thought me for a loop. I was wondering if there was a
trap. I did spend sometime looking for a down side to taking the Bishop.
Dubble pawns and giving up the d5 square were the only things I could really
see. Even if his Knight dose go to d5 there is little he can do with it
there
for now. The biggest thing is I will be up a piese for nothing. I did not
see
that he would have too much compisation for the lose. I can only guess that
he
wanted to move to g4 and his mouse sliped. Or maybe there is a trap that I
did
not fall for later. I just can not see it.} 5. exf5 e4 {I have two chooses
here that I can see. I could just take dxe4 then he would have Nxe4. I did
not
want a pawn on e4 now becouse where my Bishop is going. My bishop will be
very
strong there with out my e4 pawn in the way. I know that he will more than
likey take back bu he might have something else in mind. I thought that Nd4
was a good place for my knight It also protected my f5 pawn.} 6. Nd4 c5 {
I am a bit upset that I have to move my knight again and I want it to be the
last time I have to move my knight. I really did like my Knight here. I
guess
he did not.} 7. Ne2 Be7 {I guess he is preparing to 0-0} 8. Bg2 {
I get ready to 0-0 as well} d5 {
I would have been able to take his e pawn for noting so he protects it.} 9.
dxe4 {I am up I Bishop so it is good for me to trade I saw I could start a
chain reaction and simplify alot.} Nxe4 10. Bxe4 dxe4 11. Qxd8+ Bxd8 12. O-O
{
It will take alot of work to get to my King now. With his light square
bishop
and Queen gone I feel very safe with my king where it is.} O-O {I have 4
pawns
that can attact his Kings protection. I think I will be able to open things
up
on him when the time is right.} 13. Nbc3 {Bring out a new piece and put
pressure on his weak e pawn. Even thought tecnicly it is not an Isoloni it
very much feels like one. he can not us his f pawn to protect it so he has
to
use a piese to do so. He has to tie down a rook to this pawn.} Re8 14. Be3 {
Bring out a new piece with an attact. he now has to protect his c pawn and
can
not do anything to attact me yet.} b6 15. Nf4 {I wanted to move my c3 night
to
d5 looking at the fork on c7 after Bg5 ether he would have to take it with
the
fork or I would take his Bishop and his rook was traped. I know this is far
feched and will not work but he will have to stop it. I desided that I did
not
want to untie his rook form the e pawn so I took a bit of a slower root.}
Nc6 {
This make my move a little less powerful but still he has to watch out for
the
c7 square so his Bishop id tied to it for a little wile.} 16. Nfd5 Ne5 {
I did think about taking the bate not saw that he could check and I would
loose my advatige. So I did not go after the pawn here. I wanted to move my
a1
rook to a more active square.} 17. Rad1 Nc6 {I guess he now saw that he
could
fork my a and c pawns. That is the only reson I can see to move his knight
back to where it came form. I stoped this with the simple a3.} 18. a3 Re5 {
I really do not see the point to this move. Why? Am I really not going to
move
g4 and then Bf4? He wasted another move. Yes he is trying to get something
going but really there were better ways to do this here. His Knight was much
better here. He should have kept it there. I do not know maybe there was not
much better.} 19. g4 h6 {Ok what? I was not going to bring my Bishop to g5.
I
guess his back rank is a bit weak but at this point I am not there yet.} 20.
Bf4 Re8 {He brings his rook back to the forking square. Time to push bring
my
Bishop to c7 and move his dark square Bishop.} 21. Bc7 Bg5 {I thought it was
time to pay more attion to the e pawn of his and plus my f1 rook was not
doing
much where it was.} 22. Rfe1 Nd4 {I have no problem taking his e pawn for my
c
pawn. I also want to trade down more as well and do not want to have to move
my rook after Nxc2 so I take with my rook. Also he has the Nf3+ get my rook
thing. No reason to give my rook away.} 23. Rxe4 Nf3+ {I did not want to
loose
a pawn on my king side and why loose a pawn when I do not have too. I was
willing to trade on my terms but I will just take if not.} 24. Kg2 Rxe4 25.
Nxe4 {Less is best for me :)} Nh4+ {So another check for the sake of a
check.
He is winning the number of checks in a game so far. But that dose not mean
shit.} 26. Kf1 {
Bring my King tords the center and stop any more check for the time being.}
Re8
{Ok you are attacking a piece I was going to move anyway.} 27. Nxg5 {
Trade wile you are ahead.} hxg5 {This helps my by weaking his king side.}
28.
Re1 {I will trade if he likes. I did see that he cannot attact my knight or
my
bishop. If he dose attack my bishop I have the very nice Ne7 checking fork.}
Rc8 {:)} 29. Ne7+ 1-0

1. e4 d6 {I am playing my standard the Pirc.} 2. d4 g6 {
My move order is off but it dose not make any diffance in this game.} 3. Nc3
Bg7 4. Nf3 Nf6 {
So I have my “house” as Seirawan would say and I am ready to move my King
in.}
5. Bc4 {I sometimes worry about this move if I have not gotten my knight out
yet. It is a silly worry becouse who would trade a Bishop for a pawn?} O-O
{
King is safe so I need to move into the center.} 6. Bg5 {I did think about
h7
here then after Bh4 g5. I did not see what this would have done other that
unpin my knight (after e5) I felt that if I needed to unpin it I could just
move my Queen to e8. I wanted to protect e5 better before I moved my pawn
there so I choose Nd7} Nbd7 7. Qd2 {This turned out not to be the best move
for him. Better would have been Qc1. Althought he would not have been able
to 0-0-0 but he dose have his Queen and Bishop in a possable knight fork.}
e5 {
So I have made my move to e5 and I feel my e5 pawn is safe or it will be an
equal trade if he wants an open game.} 8. d5 {I do like a closed game moe so
then an open one. I am feeling more comfortable in an open game now but I
still like the closed. This also give my knight a very nice c5 square to be
on.} Qe8 {So now I see now that I can win the e4 pawn. I would like to say
that I also saw the fork at this point but I have not seen it yet. I moved
my
Queen out of the fork so I can get the e4 pawn.} 9. Bb5 {Another pin of a
knight to my Queen. I did see the fork at this point so I wanted to to get
my
knight safely to c5. I felt that a6 was my best choose here.} a6 {
I was full ready to play b5 if he would have moved Ba4.} 10. Bxf6 {I would
gues
s he saw the pin as well. this stops it cold. But I get a Bishop for a
knight. I felt this was a good trade for me.} Bxf6 {I felt the bishop was
the
better peice to take with here. I still wanted my knight on the very nice
c5
square.} 11. Be2 {This let me do want I wanted to do right away.} Nc5 {
I feel this a a very good square for my knight to be on.} 12. Qe3 {I guess
that
he is adding protection to the e4 pawn. Maybe he is thinking about moving
his
knight.} Bd7 {I wanted to move my bishop to a more active square.} 13. O-O {
OK I know where to his king is now and where I want to start an attact.} Bg7
{
I needed to get my bishop out of the way to start rolling my pawns.} 14. a4
{
I did not understand this move at all. I did not see what he was trying to
do
with this.} f5 {This was a bad move here. I need to give my knight a flight
square. b6 would have been a better move.} 15. Ng5 {
Adding to the protection of the e4 pawn.} f4 {
Still could have saved my knight here but did not see the danger it was in.}
16. Qd2 {Moved the queen out of danger.} h6 {
Getting the knight away form my King. Could have moved b6 here too.} 17. Nf3

Moved his knight back to where it started.} g5 {Keep on rolling. b6?} 18.

Form my chess birth to now.

April 23rd, 2008

“Dad what is this?”

“It is a game called chess.”

“How do you play?”

“Well let’s get the board set up…”

I am not sure if that is for word the conversation I had with my dad but I am sure it is close.  I remember looking thought some boxes and coming across something that looked like a game.  I am fairly sure that it was a Saturday afternoon and I was board.  I was about 11 when this happened.  I liked the game.  I started playing with my friend across the street Aaron.  He got it a lot better than I did and soon was beating left and right.  His brother played as well and I played him from time to time.  He turned out to be a better chess player than ether Aaron or I do date.

Aaron and I joined the chess club at school.  As I remember it did not meet very often or I did not stay often I am not sure witch.  All it really was kid sitting and playing chess. Very casual and no instruction on how to play.  This was a middle school 6th, 7th  and 8th grades.  So I was in 6th grade at the time.  Aaron excelled and I was kinda left watching.  I read every chess book I could find.  Most of them where intro books.  I think I still have the only advanced book on chess that had when I was a kid.  It was on the French defense.     I am not sure I would understand it now.  I do remember reading Bobby Fisher teaches chess. I learned how to put my rooks on the same file form that book.

Most of my games were played on a computer chess set that Aaron let me have.  My opening was the scholar’s mate.  I had it down.  Now I did not mate in 4 but I was able to us my queen very well with this opening.

One thing I also remember liking was trading Queens as early as I could.  I learned how to play without my Queen.

After 7th grade I moved from Indianapolis to State College, PA the home of Penn State.  I was upset to find out that my new school did not have a chess team.  I was told that I could see is the Penn State chess club would let me play with them.  I never did call them.  I did not think that they would want a kid around when they played.  I did play in one tournament when I was there and lost both games.  I remember being upset that I have to play 1400 players.  I did not know my rating at the time because I had only 3 tournament games under my belt.  Back then your rating was not even told to you until you play 20 games or so.  I did find out that I had a rating or 1165.  Not bad for a draw and 2 loses.

From time to time I would find someone to play but all were people who knew how the pieces moved and little else.

When the internet started to become big I looked to play online.  Most people wanted to play blitz and not longer games.  As I would say I like to think so I really did not like blitz.   I would get a computer program every few years.  Chessmaster whatever version was out at the time.  I would play with it for a time and quite.  I never found play computer programs the same as playing a human.  So one time I got Fritz 8 to play with.  That was no fun.  I lost very quickly and had no Idea why.  I would have it analyze the game and would not understand what went wrong.

A major change then happened in my life.  I went thought a divorce and moved out on my own.  I had a lot of time to myself and I was now in a much bigger area Pittsburgh.  One day I went to the Pittsburgh Chess Club.  They were nice and I played some games.  It had been a long time cents I had played and I got beat bad.   Well I was playing a Class A player so that was no big surprise.  The thing I did not like about the club was that it was open only 2 days a week.  When I was there I heard about a new store that opened in one of the malls in the area.  The House of Chess.  They were open all the hours the mall was.  This was better.  Also I worked near the mall sometime so it made it almost perfect. It was nice I was there two to three times a week and soon they asked me if I would like to work there.  I said I would.  It was very nice I got paid to play and study chess.  There were a lot of older books there to read over.  The computer had just about any software you could want and there was a Grandmaster there to boot. Anytime there was a training going on I was able watch for free.  I was able to put a lot of time into chess.  But it real did not pay off too well.  I never real improved much.  A little but not a lot.   But all good things must come to an end and The House of Chess closed almost overnight.   I was left with nowhere to play again.

I then decided to try out the Internet Chess Club.  So far I have liked it a lot there.  They have tournaments often and you can play a rated game almost any time you would like.

There are 3 things that have helped me out big time in the last month or so.  First I started using Chess Mentor at chess.com.  It has helped me out a good bit.  I also started taken lessons form Zenchess. He had helped me out a lot as well.  But the biggest thing that helped me out is Pro Chess: the Video Chess Mentor My mind has been exploding cents I watched it. It opened up ha door way to understanding that has always been closed. All kinds of things people have told me about now make cents when they did not before I fundamentally had a new understanding of chess. I can now look at a chess board and understand what is going on It is wonderful
